These are those beer ads from the 1913 Vancouver newspapers I mentioned in my previous posting. These were interspersed between articles on the war brewing in the Balkans. Greece and Serbia were invading Bulgaria. A massive earthquake had devastated Calabria. Further north Vesuvius was threatening eruption.
Here in Canada, a disastrous train accident near Ottawa involving a passenger train filled with newly arrived immigrants was making the headlines.
Though World War I was looming just over the horizon, Vancouver newspapers proudly advertised German beer. Read the ad for Kuntz's Old German Lager. I love the line, "It will capture you too".
And get a load of those prices!
Sometimes an old house whispers... and some houses even seem to shout... and even though some old houses come across as quiet, even silent, they each have their story. I pay attention... I listen... These are the stories I've heard, and now I am passing them on to you...
